How to use automobile tightening wheel bearings

Car tightening wheel bearings are key components in the engine timing system or accessories transmission system. They are mainly used to support the tightening wheels and ensure that the belt (such as timing belts, generator belts) maintain proper tension to prevent the belt from slipping or excessive wear. The following are the usage and maintenance points:

1. The principle of tightening wheel bearing

Tension force adjustment: Apply pressure on the tightening wheel through a spring or hydraulic mechanism to keep the belt in a suitable tension state at all times.

Shock Absorption Buffer: The bearing is designed with a low friction inside to reduce belt vibration and noise.

Life extension: Reduce wear of belt and wheel trains by evenly distributing belt tension.

2. Installation steps and precautions

1. Preparation before installation

Tool preparation: socket wrench, torque wrench, screwdriver, jack (if accessories need to be removed).

Parts inspection:

Confirm that the new tightening wheel bearing model is consistent with the original vehicle (refer to the repair manual or part number).

Check whether the bearing rotates flexibly, without any stagnation or abnormal noise.

Check the wear of the belt. If the belt is cracked or loose, replace it simultaneously.

2. Disassemble the old tightening wheel

Safety measures:

Turn off the engine, unplug the keys, and wait for the engine to cool down.

Wear protective gloves and goggles to prevent straps or lubricating oil from splashing into the eyes.

Operation steps:

Loosen the belt:

Timing belt: Special tools are required to fix the camshaft and crankshaft to avoid timing misalignment.

Accessories belt (such as generator belt): Use a wrench to loosen the tension wheel bolts to release belt tension.

Disassembly tightening wheel:

Remove the bolts (usually 1-2 pieces) that fix the tightening wheel and remove the old tightening wheel.

Pay attention to recording the position and installation direction of the bolts to avoid confusion.

3. Install new tightening wheel bearings

Clean the surface: Wipe the tightening wheel mount and pulley with a cleaner to remove oil and impurities.

Apply grease: Apply an appropriate amount of high-temperature grease (such as lithium-based grease) to the bearing contact surface and bolt threads.

Install tightening wheels:

Align the new tightening wheel at the mount and initially tighten the bolts by hand.

Use a torque wrench to hold the torque fastening bolts (usually 20-40N·m) as specified in the repair manual.

When installing the belt, make sure the belt is fully embedded in the wheel groove without twisting or offset.

Adjust tension:

Timing belt: Use timing tools to re-calibrate the timing and ensure that the tightening wheel pointer is within the specified range.

Accessories belt: Use a wrench to rotate the tension wheel adjustment bolts to make the belt tension meet the standards (can be measured with a belt tension gauge).

3. Maintenance points during use

1. Regular inspection

Inspection cycle: Check every 20,000 kilometers or every maintenance.

Check content:

Listen: Whether there are any abnormal noises (such as buzzing and squeaking) when the engine is running.

See: Whether the belt has cracks, wear or looseness, and whether there is oil stain on the surface of the tightening wheel.

Touch: Use your hand to touch the tightening wheel bearing to feel whether there is overheating or vibration.

2. Lubrication and maintenance

Maintenance-free bearings: Modern tightening wheel bearings are mostly sealed designs without additional lubrication.

Bearings need to be lubricated: If the bearing has a fuel hole, add a small amount of high-temperature grease every 50,000 kilometers.

3. Change timing

Replace immediately:

The bearing is stuck or inflexible.

The belt frequently slips or makes sharp noises.

The tightening wheel shell is broken or deformed.

Preventive replacement:

Timing system tightening wheel: It is recommended to replace it simultaneously with the timing belt (usually 80,000-100,000 kilometers).

Accessories belt tightening wheel: Replace according to the belt life (usually 60,000-80,000 kilometers).
